5 Year Old Rape Victim Responding to Treatment

Despite the continuous protests over the authorities failure to handle the case satisfactorily, it was good news for the family of the five year old rape victim as she is finally responding to treatment, according to the doctors handling her situation.

D.K. Sharma, medical superintendent of the state-run hospital in New Delhi where the girl was being treated, said that she was responding well to treatment and that her condition had stabilized. 

It will be recalled, that she was allegedly kidnapped, raped and tortured by a man and then left alone in a locked room in Delhi until she was found two days later by neighbors who heard her crying in a locked room in the same building where she lives with her family. The girl was alone when she was found, having been left to die by her assailant after the rape, according to the police.

It is being two days since hundreds of people protested outside police headquarters in the capital, enraged over allegations that police had ignored complaints by the girl's parents that she was missing. The protesters also demanded that the Delhi police chief be removed from office and that police officials accused of failing to act on the parents' complaint be dismissed.

Late Sunday, 100 students gathered at New Delhi's iconic India Gate monument and held a peaceful protest, despite police order. University students initially planned to hold a peaceful protest even after some restrictions have been placed at the main avenue.

At a meeting with civil servants, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in her words said, "the gruesome assault on the little girl a few days back reminds us once again of the need to work collectively to root out this sort of depravity from our society".

Even as protesters have demanded that the government to pass tough laws for crimes against women, Human Rights Watch's Ganguly has explained that, "enacting strong laws are simply a first step, but it needs the government to focus urgently on implementation if it is serious about protecting children and other victims of sexual abuse." 

Five-Year-Old Girl Raped in Delhi in Critical Condition

The increasing sexual violence against women and girls in India over last couple of months has been a difficult issue to address. The government has been under scrutiny from civil rights groups and the world at large after after the rape and murder of a student on a Delhi bus in December led to widespread protests. No one seems to understand what is going on and why these cases have become so consistent that the government cant put an end to it.

It became a very bad situation when a 5 year old girl was taken hostage on Monday and attacked in a locked room for over 48 hours, according to the police. Her cries were heard by a passer-by who rescued her. The poor girl is battling for her life after being allegedly kidnapped and repeatedly raped by a neighbour in the Indian capital, Delhi.

According to the chief of Swami Dayanand hospital, RN Bansal, there were injuries to her lips, cheeks and chest wall. There were bruises on her neck. Although, she was brought in traumatised, no arrest has been made to bring in the monster who out her in that state.
 
The police are also looking for a group of men who allegedly gang-raped a 19-year-old woman on Wednesday night. A new bill passed by India to reduce the rate of rape by introducing harsher punishments, including the death penalty for rapists. But, the rape cases has continued to pile up and the culprits have been elusive to the police.

It makes one wonder what must have been going through the minds of these criminals who have given mothers sleepless nights, and instilled fear into young women walking the streets of India. Will there be an end to these troublesome situation?.
