OOU Lecturer Murdered by Unknown Gunmen

Dr. Olusegun Onabanjo, a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, was shot dead by unknown gunmen who stormed his private residence in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to reports, the killers suspected to be robbers, stormed the private residence of the late lecturer located in Odomo lasa area of Ilese-Ijebu within the hours of 12am to 2am.

Dr. Onabanjo was said to have been shot and left for dead while trying to challenge the robbers.

Residents of the area told reporters that they heard Mr. Onabanjo shouting "e bami gbe ibon mi (kindly bring me my gun)" to his family members hoping to scare away the gunmen at the time they were making efforts to force their way into the house.

Luck ran out on the lecturer, as the gunmen broke in, shot him dead for challenging them and made away with some of his property.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the killing of the lecturer to newsmen, adding that the policemen rushed to the scene and engaged the assailants in a gun duel as soon as they received a tip-off of their activities in the area.

However, he sympathised with the family of the deceased lecturer, adding the command would do everything possible to bring them to justice, as they were currently on the trail of the suspected killers who have escaped with bullet wounds through a nearby bush.

The PPRO also urged the residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area that could help bring the criminals to justice. He called on doctors in the state to alert the command should anyone with gun wounds approach their hospitals.

Dr. Onabanjo, a well-celebrated scholar of his university, was a graduate of Sociology from the University of Uyo.

Until his untimely death, he had obtained two masters degrees from the University of Lagos and University of Ibadan and was recently awarded a Ph.D by the University of Ibadan.

Ronaldo Threat to United Hopes

Manchester United face an almighty battle to land Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Premier League champions hope to sign the world superstar for £65million — and complete the biggest transfer in British football history.

United want to unveil Ronaldo on August 8 and then play him in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial against Sevilla the day after.

But Ronaldo himself last night delivered Old Trafford chiefs a blow, insisting he has still not ruled out a new deal with Real Madrid.

He said: “I’m calm. I’m not worried about it, I know we are going to reach an agreement to sign a new deal and for that if I am honest, I’m not preoccupied about it.”

Ronaldo’s representatives have reportedly demanded around £35m a year gross wages PLUS all his image rights.

As it stands Madrid are offering around £30m a year and the same 60-40 per cent split on his image rights worth in excess of £20m a year.

United’s plan is to pay Ronaldo, 28, a basic salary in excess of £300,000 a week to make him the highest-paid player in English football.

Explosion at a JUI-F Rally in Pakistan Leaves Many Injured

There have been reports of an explosion killing at least 15 people, and leaving several injured at a political rally of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam faction candidate, Munir Orakzai in Kurram Agency on Monday.

Although, Orakzai was believed to have escaped the bombing unhurt, a government administrator in the region claimed about 50 people were injured in the attack.

He also added that the bomb appeared to have been placed in the building where the rally was to be held by the national assembly candidates of JUI faction.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but, it is not news that the Pakistani Taliban has strongly opposed the elections, calling it “un-Islamic”, and carrying it out its threats to disrupt the activities of the main parties in the outgoing coalition.

Interim Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Hazar, has strongly condemned the attack, as the violence has continuously risen ahead of the general elections, with over 60 people killed in the attacks directed at the political parties and their candidates since April 11.

  

Ever Wondered Why Women are attracted to the ‘Bad Boy’ Personality?

Peter Jonason of New Mexico University conducted a study of 200 male college students to determine why narcissists, risk-seekers and liars have not been made extinct due to their undesirable traits. What he found was astonishing.

Apparently, he found out that most women want self-obsessed, lying psychopaths for partners.  Men with these traits had more sexual partners and a greater desire for short-term hookups.

Now, wait a minute . . . . . we are here for answers, not to criticize the personality that thousands of guys are desperate to adopt; the very personality that seems to make women feel “on top of the world”.

You don’t need a spiritualist to tell you who they are or what they look like. From local and international celebrities, to your very next door neighbor, men with the “bad boy” traits are well known in our society.

The average bad boy has certain traits that make the society see him for what he is. But, before we can fully understand why these complex beings called “females” are attracted to these personality, we have to understand the psychology behind the average bad boy.

Bad boys are devilishly charming, at least most of them. They have this aura around them that gives them the ability to suck out the oxygen in any room and get the ladies staring till their eyes literally fall out.

Bad boys are confident. I mean that kind of confidence where they can stare into your eyes without blinking. This trait gives them the power to tell lies to your face without flinching and get out of tight situations without looking guilty.

Another trait is independence. I can’t really call them “principled”, but bad boys like to stand on their own and make decisions regardless of how it affects others. They really don’t give a damn what you think and they don’t care who they upset to meet their objectives, so long as it favors them alone.

Bad boys are more like control freaks. They are very possessive.  They like to play the “alpha male” in every group, brag about what they’ve got and be the center of attraction in every social gathering or function. They don’t take ‘no’ for an answer, and they certainly don’t share their “prized” possessions with anyone. Not ever!

Bad boys are risk-takers in their own right. They can fight for what is theirs (and what is not theirs), and can make the other guy look silly just to get the girl. They do not spend time trying to analyze the situation they just “go with the flow”.

Another trait exhibited by these trouble makers is spontaneity. Bad boys are very spontaneous. They are fun lovers and seekers. They love to do the things women can only dream about or read in books, no matter how twisted it may sound. It’s a trait every woman would desire to see in her man, because it is as though the man knows exactly what goes on in their heads, knows what they need without saying the words and gives them without objections.

However, not every bad boy possesses these traits, as most bad boys rely on their bank accounts to get any lady they so desire. But, it is important to note that one or more of these traits must be present in every guy with bad boy personality.

This is true, because most ladies will definitely get bored of a guy who has enough money to throw around, but does not possess the “genes” of the bad boy she’s been dreaming about. Money is definitely not everything.

It should be understood here, that I am not in any way trying to give the “bad boy” personality some credit. The average bad boy only represents the fantasies of most women who desire men that can give them that confidence they need to express their darkest desires without fear of the consequences.  

In the end, a bad boy refuses to be tied to one woman, so he will continue seek pleasure in others. Some will let their possessive attitude turn them into living nightmares. Some will continue to play with the hearts of unsuspecting females, because the fun is way too much to ignore. Others will physically and emotionally abuse women, because they believe they are too indispensable for any woman to live without.

The “bad boy” personality is simply a personality. Every man will get tired of playing that role, and find a responsible woman to settle down with, while every woman will shrug off their thirst for a bad boy, and settle for a “real man”.

US Citizen Sentenced to Jail by North Korea

Pae Jun-Ho, a US Citizen known in the country as Kenneth Bae, has been handed down a sentence of 15 years with hard labour by North Korea for allegedly carrying out “hostile acts” against the government, according to the official Korea Central News Agency on Thursday.

Only last week, the North Korean media said that Mr Pae had confessed to committing crimes against North Korea, aimed to overthrow the government. But, Pyongyang did not specify the basis of the crimes allegedly commited by Bae, who is believed to be a tour operator of Korean descent.

“The Supreme Court sentenced him to 15 years of compulsory labour for his crime,” KCNA said on Thursday.

He was arrested in November last year as he entered the northeastern port city of Rason, a special economic zone near North Korea’s border with China.

Earlier this week, the United States had urged North Korea to free the detainee on “humanitarian grounds.”

On Monday, deputy acting State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said, “The welfare of US citizens is a critical and top priority for this department. We call on the DPRK to release Kenneth Bae immediately on humanitarian grounds.”

The sentence comes at a time when there is high tension between North Korea and the United States after the UN expanded sanctions against the communist state in March, in the wake of its nuclear test in February and long-range rocket launch in December.

Do-Hee-Yoon, a Seoul-based activist, told AFP new agency that he suspects Bae was arrested because he took photographs of suffering children in the country in order to appeal for aid outside.

It has been indicated by observers that Pyongyang could use the convicted American as a “political bargaining” chip , as US officials have stood their grounds on the fact that Bae entered the country legally.

This is not the first time North Korea would arrest a US citizen, as they have arrested several others in recent years, including journalists and Christians accused of proselytism.

Their releases were strongly initiated by the intervention from high-profile American figures.

In 2009, former president Bill Clinton went on a mercy mission to North Korea, and won the release of US television journalists Laura Long and Euna Lee, who were jailed after wandering across the North-Korea border with China.

Then, in 2010, American national Aijalon Mahli Gomes, who was sentenced to eight years of hard labour for illegally crossing into the North from China, was freed after former US president Jimmy Carter negotiated his release.

The release of Eddie Yong-Su, a California based business man, who had been detained for apparent missionary activities, was secured by a US Delegation led by Robert King, the US special envoy for human rights and humanitarian issues in 2011.
