More Bombing Targeted at Pakistan Election Offices

There has been reports of another set of bomb attacks in Pakistan, targeted at the campaign offices of Syed Noor Akbar and Nasir Khan Afridi, both running for national assembly seats; only that this time, the attacks were against independent candidates.

Dilawar Khan Bangash, city police chief, said that in the first attack, the IED was planted outside the election office of independent candidate Syed Noor Akbar, in the garrison city of Kohat around 05:30GMT on Sunday. At least, six people have been killed and 22 injured.

According to AP news agency, police officer Tanveer Khan said, ‘the election office was open at the time and supporters of Noor Akbar were sitting inside. The death toll may rise, the condition of some of the injured is critical.’

In his own words, police officer Saifur Rehman told AP news agency that the second bomb killed three at the office of independent candidate, Nasir Khan Afridi, in the suburbs of Peshawar.

Although no one has claimed responsibility for these attacks, the bombings is clearly intended to discourage the people of Pakistan from voting in the upcoming May 11 elections, and create a sense of insecurity amongst the people.

Only on Saturday, bomb attacks were carried out against supporters of Pakistan People’s Party and their coalition partners in Karachi, which saw the deaths of many.
